AMCO, as a subcontractor of the Illinois-based AmericanEagle.com, has been selected as the onboard validators provider of the cashless fare payment system for the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA) - which is the public transportation provider for the Memphis area. The onboard validators are designed and manufactured by AMCO in Greece, featuring the latest industry standards in contactless smart cards, NFC and QR codes.
“The new fare collection system will provide an opportunity for MATA to improve how it delivers transit services to its customers and offer additional options to passengers in order to provide a more modern and customer-friendly experience,” said Gary Rosenfeld, Chief Executive Officer at MATA.
Nikos Markellos, CEO of AMCO, has stressed the importance of this project for the company as it opens up tremendous opportunities to further expand in such a vast market as the US. It is suitable to also note that in 2019, 80% of AMCO’s annual turnover came from exports – having already fulfilled smart mobility projects in 15 countries around Europe, Middle East, Africa and India.
